In a Family Way

As soon as my parents married, my mom was ready to start a family. After six months of trying, with no luck, she was getting frustrated.

Great Grandma Nellie

Great Grandma Nellie was an important part of our lives. We’d make the three-hour drive to visit her on Christmas and other times throughout the year.

Music in the Family

Grandpa Gleason was in several bands over the years. I believe playing music was the greatest joy of his life.

Grandpa Gleason’s 42nd Birthday

Grandpa Gleason played music his entire life, which is why Grandma Gleason and my mom made him a guitar cake for his 42nd birthday. He played in bands, with Grandma Gleason, in bars, at festivals, and in people’s houses. It didn’t matter to him, he just wanted to play. He even recorded a song that got pressed on vinyl, but we’ll get more into Grandpa Gleason’s music career in a later post. For now, let’s get back to his birthday.

Rented Velvet Tux

My dad already had cool points for having a 1967 Z/28 Camaro. But, he gets extra cool points for wearing a rented velvet tux when he was an usher in Uncle Maynard and Aunt Carol’s wedding. Uncle Maynard’s mom is Eva, whom you may remember as my soon-to-be Grandma Smith.

Alright, let’s address that painting on the wall. It’s supposed to be clouds or something, but growing up all I ever saw was a creepy face, but I kind of like it now. There’s a slightly-less-creepy blue one visible on the wall in the Newlyweds post.

Also, it’s nice to see the glass horse perfume bottle making another appearance.

The Newlyweds

A few days after saying their wedding vows, my parents drove three hours to celebrate Christmas with Great-Grandma Nellie. Unfortunately, I don’t have a photo of her from that Christmas, so you’ll have to wait a little longer to get her story.

Tying the Knot

My parent’s first date was on Halloween of 1975; they would marry before Christmas of that year.
